Blackbird Investments Partners with Des Moines YMCA
Blackbird Investments and YMCA Partner to Offer Innovative Wellness Programs
Des Moines, Iowa – Blackbird Investments and the YMCA of Greater Des Moines have teamed together to offer two unique, ground-breaking types of wellness offerings — one for all Blackbird employees, and one for all tenants who live in a Residence by Blackbird.
The first, the YMCA Corporate Wellness Program, is a comprehensive offering to all Blackbird employees as a paid employee benefit. “Both the YMCA and Blackbird have very similar principles; to connect, strengthen, and enhance each community we’re in,” explains TJ Jacobs, a partner at Blackbird Investments.
The new YMCA Corporate Wellness program goes beyond offering discounted memberships to address the health and fitness needs of all employees. The package includes individual wellness consultations for all employees, company sited Lunch ‘n’ Learns by a personal trainer or nutritionist, discounts on personal training sessions, and discounts on premium fitness classes, among other benefits.
“The Y is always looking for new, innovative ways to incorporate wellness into people’s lives,” said Dave Schwartz, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. “By partnering with employers to offer the benefit of Y membership to all employees, we are fulfilling our mission of building a stronger, healthier, more vibrant community. This is a real win-win for Des Moines.”
“We want our employees to be healthy in all aspects of their lives. By offering a paid family gym membership that could cost anywhere from $60-$200, that’s one less bill they need to worry about and eliminates the barrier for their physical health,” explains Jacobs. “We know having a happy, healthy staff leads to higher productivity, an overall great company culture, and a sense of community to Des Moines” he adds.
The second collaboration with the Y is an exclusive offering from Blackbird Investments for every tenant who lives in a Residence by Blackbird. The offering includes a single or family membership to any YMCA location in the greater Des Moines area. Currently, Blackbird has two apartment buildings in downtown Des Moines; 200 10th St. and 713 Walnut. “Rather than compete with a state-of-the-art, brand new workout facility conveniently located downtown Des Moines, we chose to partner with the Wellmark YMCA,” says Jacobs. When tenants sign a lease, the individual or family membership is automatically included as a tenant benefit with no additional cost.
“By considering potential partnerships that can be made with our neighbors downtown, such as the YMCA, we then have new space to creatively use for our tenants that otherwise would have been under-utilized,” mentions Jacobs. “We are thrilled to bring more opportunities to our employees and tenants for the overall well-being of Des Moines”.
Schwartz said the Y is pleased to be partnering with Blackbird as the pilot for these two new programs. “Our intention is to continue working to refine the programs, then make them available to other employers and residential complexes throughout central Iowa,” he said.
